# Jaeger

> Virtualize Jaeger services and traces as read-only JSON files.

Connect to an existing Jaeger query service. Set `host` to its base URL,
such as `http://localhost:16686`.

## Connect

**Python**

Run inside an async function or a Jupyter notebook:

```python theme={null}
from mirage import Workspace
from mirage.vfs.jaeger import JaegerConfig, JaegerVFS
ws = Workspace({
    "/jaeger": JaegerVFS(JaegerConfig(host="http://localhost:16686")),
})
result = await ws.shell("ls /jaeger/services")
print(await result.stdout_str(), end="")
await ws.close()
```

**TypeScript**

```typescript theme={null}
import { JaegerVFS, Workspace } from '@struktoai/mirage-node'
const ws = new Workspace({
  '/jaeger': new JaegerVFS({ host: 'http://localhost:16686' }),
})
const result = await ws.shell('ls /jaeger/services')
process.stdout.write(result.stdoutText)
await ws.close()
```

**YAML**

```yaml theme={null}
mounts:
  /jaeger:
    vfs: jaeger
    config:
      host: http://localhost:16686
```

## Browse traces

Each service has an operations list and a directory of traces:

```text theme={null}
/jaeger/services/<service>/
  operations.json
  traces/
    <trace-id>.json
```

Use `ls` to find services and traces, then `cat` or `jq` to read a trace.
Files are read-only. Trace listings return up to 100 traces per service by
default; set `default_trace_limit` in Python or YAML, or `defaultTraceLimit`
in TypeScript, to change the limit.
